How to Train Your Magic in OSRS

And gain a profit while you’re at it

Magic can be expensive to train. You need runes for every cast, and that cost can build up to something astronomical over time. Sure, some staves can reduce your rune consumption. However, if you want the combination ones, you’ll need to hunt for them or buy them in the Grand Exchange. These staves only provide up to two of the basic elemental runes (Water, Earth, Fire, Air). That means you still have to find a source for the others, which you’ll need OSRS gold for.

So here are some ways to level up your Magic, while earning OSRS gold!

Enchanting Jewelry (Level 7 to About 60)

You may be able to learn up to level 7 Enchanting, but at that point, it is no longer cost-effective to do so. Enchanting is best done at lower levels when you don’t need a significant investment yet and profits can easily cover the costs.

7-27: Enchanting (level 1) Sapphire Jewelry.

27-49/55: Enchanting (level 2) Emerald Rings into Rings of Dueling.

49-55: Enchanting (level 3) Topaz and Ruby Jewelry. This method may result in a loss, which makes continuing the above step until 55 more consistent in profits and XP rates.

57: Enchanting (level 4) Diamond Jewelry. Needs a significant investment making the next method more efficient. You can still profit with this method, however.

Charging Orbs (level 56 to about 70)

Elemental orbs can give you a significant profit, especially if you have the requisite Agility level. You’ll need the latter to access shortcuts to get you in and out of the dungeons where the elemental obelisks are. This method also brings more profit with a lower investment cost.

56: Charging Water Orbs. Use a Staff of Water to cut down on rune costs. At least 80 Agility is recommended for best efficiency.

60: Charging Earth Orbs. Be careful of PK-ers. Bring along a Staff of Earth and nothing else but what you need.

63: Charging Fire Orbs. Same as the Water Orbs, except fire this time. Use a Staff of Fire and 80 Agility recommended.

66: Changing Air Orbs. You’ll have to run through the Wilderness to get to the Edgeville Dungeon. Like Earth Orb, bring along just what you need and nothing else. Use a Staff of Air.

Various Other Methods

Here are some ways to train Magic that couldn’t be categorized with the above.

Superheating Ores Into Bars

You can get OSRS gold selling Superheated ores. It varies depending on which ones you can process for a profit. If you’re not collecting the ores yourself, you’re shouldering the costs of the ore and the Nature Runes you’ll be using. There are calculators and resources you can use to figure out which ores to use for this method.

High Alchemy

At level 55, you learn the spell High Alchemy. You can use it on your items to turn them into OSRS gold. Some players do this until they reach Magic 99, and they can earn enough to sell OSRS gold if they want to. Make sure to thoroughly research what items you can use this on for profit. You’re going to buy things in bulk and you don’t want to waste your money!

Superglass Make

If you’ve done the Lunar Diplomacy quest and are at Magic level 77, you can cast this spell to make Molten Glass. Use a Smoke Battlestaff so you’ll only need to worry about Astral Runes. Each cast affects your whole inventory, which makes this an efficient method in rune usage. Having 13 Seaweed and 13 Buckets of Sand will give good profit. You can get a little more profit if you use 3 Giant Seaweed and 18 Buckets of Sand.

Conclusions

Of course, there are a few other methods you can use, such as the higher level Enchants and other production spells. Those aren’t included here as they’re not as efficient in both providing profits and Magic XP. For example, High-Level Enchants require a significant investment but give out high XP rates. If you’re going for profits, that’s an impractical method to do so.

Other methods either give too low profits or can even result in losses. The ones listed here give the best rates and decent profits.

Be warned that these methods are quite slow in letting you reach 99. Combat will give higher rates if you’re looking for the quickest way. Again, that’s going to be expensive, so it isn’t recommended for fresh accounts or those who don’t have the money. There’s always the option to buy OSRS gold, but are you willing to risk it?

At any rate, the saying goes ‘slow and steady wins the race’, and this is as slow and as steady as you can get. Besides, with these methods, you offset your spending OSRS gold buying runes with all the profits you earn. It’s the best of both worlds!

Enjoy earning OSRS gold and training Magic!
